Hi Liam here from Presentation Expressions.

Today I will talk about Carl’s video from last week, signposting and 3 reasons why signposting is good.

Carl made great points in his post last week about how to give the audience’s brains little breaks and helping the audience remember important points in a presentation.

In this weeks tip I want to talk about something similar.

Signposting

What is signposting?

When we are driving our cars somewhere strange we depend on signposts to let us know where we are right?

Signposting in a presentation is when we tell the audience where our presentation is going. When we signpost we give the audience three important things.

  1. Information
  2. Anticipation
  3. Understanding

Information

Tells the audience about the subject of your presentation.

Anticipation

The audience will anticipate areas of you presentation.

Understanding

The audience will understand the basics of your presentation.

I actually signposted at the beginning of todays video, here is what I said.

“Today I will talk about Carl’s video from last week, signposting and 3 reasons why signposting is good”.

Remember signposting gives your audience Information, Anticipation and Understanding about your presentation.

If you don’t already use signposting in your presentations then use it in your next presentation and let us know how you get on.

Enjoy the video 🙂

Please like this video on Facebook, tweet about it on Twitter and share through other social media – help others improve their presentations.

Thanks

Liam
