Hey there it’s Carl Kwan here. In a previous video, I talked about how to create epic content for your presentations. In this video, I’m going to follow that up and teach you three script writing tips because ideas are not really useful if you can’t put them down in writing. If you can’t write right. Right?
Why write a script?
Why do we need to write a presentation script? The reason is because the presentation is just like a play, or a movie, or a TV show. You need to have a script otherwise you won’t know what to say, you won’t know if you made your point, or if you reached your goal or whether or not your presentation meets the time requirements.
So a script is essential. Yes I realize that you are worried about having to memorize the script, but we will work on memorizing your presentation in a future video.
Tips for How to Write Presentations scripts
Number 1: Write or map out your presentation structure
You want to put down the beginning, middle and end for your presentation. The beginning is the introduction, the middle are the points or ideas that you want to present and the end is your conclusion and call to action.
You can do this by making a mind map, or making a text document with bullet points. Whatever helps you get your structure down before you start writing.
Number two: Write conversationally
What you want to do is pretend that one of your target audience members is sitting in front of you and you want to write as if you were talking to a friend. You could also pretend that you are explaining your presentation topic to your grandmother or to a 10-year-old child.
The point is you want your presentation to sound natural and to be easily understood.
And tip Number Three: read it out loud
After you finish writing your presentation, read it out loud to yourself. Check to see if your presentation sounds natural, if the length is OK, see if your point is clear, and if you have used any jargon or slang that your audience wouldn’t understand.
So there you go, you know have three tips to help you write your presentation script.
- Tip number one was to prepare the structure
- Tip number two was to write conversationally and
- Tip number three was to read your presentation script out loud
Hope you found those three tips helpful. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to leave those in the comments section below. And if you need help with preparing your presentation, please get in touch and I would be happy to help you out.
Thanks for watching and talk to you again soon.
Hi Karl! This is Carlo from the Philippines. I have subscribed to your newsletters, been following you for some time now… In short, am an avid fan here! I like your tips very much, been learning a lot about public speaking. One thing I’m really looking forward to is a tutorial on how to deepen the voice just like that. Is it natural? Or can you share some techniques on how to sound very authoritative as you do? I mean, I already have a voice which is deeper than average but can’t do it consistently during a speech. I want to sound like you because it’s easy to listen to… I’m a college instructor and I hope you can teach me a way to do it. Thanks and more power to your program!
Hi Carlo,
Sorry for the late reply to your question. I completely forgot to check the comments. But thank you and thank you for the support.
Anyway, what you’re asking about takes practice. I’d recommend recording myself and being aware of how you use your voice. It’s all practice and awareness. Good luck!
