Your voice is obviously an important part of giving a presentation because, unless you’re doing a pantomime, the way you speak when giving a presentation or speech has an impact on the overall effectiveness of your presentation.
If you have ever seen Barack Obama give a speech, you have no doubt heard how powerful, confident and effective his voice is. Now, I don’t mean to say you need to be like Obama in order to give an effective presentation, but what you do need to do is pay attention to how you sound and how you are using your voice when presenting.
So check out the video to learn about why your voice tone and speed can impact your presentation, why speaking faster like a native English speaker is a mistake and what you can do to improve how you speak when delivering presentations.
Carl,
Question for you: You seem like a natural in speaking in front of the camera or giving presentations. Have you always been good or have you practiced to get to this point?
I like listening to your presentation advise and I will definitely use in my upcoming assessment. Thank you for your good work.
Hi Marco,
Thanks for the question and kind words.
Being comfortable/natural in front of the camera takes practice. I don’t think I’ve always been good at it, and I can still get better.
Good luck with your assessment. Let me know how it goes.
Carl
Good point about facial expressions coming through in your voice. Nancy Duarte has a neat tip about that, which is aimed at webinar presenters but could work on video, too.
Thanks, Craig! And thanks for the link to Nancy’s tip, too. Definitely applicable.
